How To Remove Boat Deck Paint
Three methods of paint removal available to you to successfully remove the paint from a boat: mechanical sanding, heat guns, and (the best method) paint stripping chemicals. mechanical sanding is the most labor-intensive method.. 4. finish: allow the paint to set up for an hour or two, and remove the tape for a clean edge. if you wait until it dries completely the tape is more difficult to remove. cleanup is with soap and water. allow at least a day before using the deck.. Next, to keep paint drips off teak handrails, the windlass, and the portholes, they masked these with heavy paper and tape. right after the final wipe with a cleaning solvent, they took two days to roll and brush on two coats of epoxy primer, the base for the final topcoat..
Hi chaps, ignore the grp in the title - i meant to say ply (senior moment) i'm looking to refresh the cockpit area of my mk1 crabber and am looking for suggestions on how to remove the deck paint that is cracked and flaking in places.. Gel or paint? i would agree with ted about using paint vs gelcoat. my v21 had peeling paint w/non-skid material over the gelcoat-built nonskid(see link below). i tried sanding, but was able to remove most of the peeling material using acetone.. Used this http://bit.ly/pressurewasher to remove and strip paint off my deck using a pressure water jet and a citrus based stripper, it was so easy!!! click this link.
